In 1996, a group of biomedical engineers from the University of Toronto and its affiliate teaching hospitals came together to save money on medical equipment maintenance and repairs. They created CMEPP (the Canadian Medical Equipment Protection Plan) as a not-for-profit, Participant-owned organization that was committed to minimizing risk, delivering savings to Participant members, and efficiently managing medical equipment contracts.

Today we work with more than 50% of the hospitals in Ontario as well as a number of hospitals in British Columbia and Manitoba. As members of CMEPP, these hospitals benefit from substantial annual returns (average $3M surplus payments), less time on administration, cost savings, and continued strong relationships with suppliers.
