Blog post by Nils Clausen, CMEPP CEO
When CMEPP emerged on the healthcare landscape almost thirty years ago, it was a new concept designed to disrupt how traditional medical equipment service contracts were managed.
Hospitals were under intense financial pressure in the late 90s when a few forward-thinking biomedical engineers at the University of Toronto – among them @Bill Gentles from Sunnybrook and @Tony Easty from Toronto General – were looking at ways to give hospitals flexibility in the management of their medical equipment service contracts.
The name of their daring enterprise was CMEPP – the Canadian Medical Equipment Protection Plan.
The small ‘startup’ wasn’t well-understood or accepted at first, but we’re gratified by the now widely understood view that CMEPP does bring value, administrative relief and cost savings to our hospital Participants. But getting this far didn’t happen without effort – we had momentum and soon we had experience but it was never easy.
Together with the CMEPP team, I take enormous pride in what we’ve accomplished.
Today we’re thinking about the next chapter in our growth and how to effectively respond to the urgent challenges facing our Participants and Suppliers. We want to maintain our vital team culture and stay true to our core vision and mission.
Thirty years has gone by in a flash. I’m excited about what comes next – and will enjoy looking back at some highlight moments as we celebrate 30 years. CMEPP is bigger, more confident, but still curious, still adapting, and still innovating. And I’m proud to say, still a disruptor!
